CERSER stands for the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research. The purpose of this organization is to develop relevant research focused on global, ocean, and ice sheet research. It is a collaborative effort with The Office of Naval Research, Elizabeth City State University, The MU-SPIN office of Goddard Space Flight Center, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Pioneer Corporation, SeaSpace Inc., and NOAA's wakefield office of the National Weather Service. CERSER's lab consists of various monitoring devices such as: TeraScan HRPT system, fifteen computer stations, Remote storage areas of research information, and several different servers.
NIA is an organization of Elizabeth City State University that is involved in a host of research projects. This includes Watershed Watch, Ice Sheet Melting, Remote Sensing, etc.
Elizabeth City State University, a constituent instution of The University of North Carolina, offers programs in the arts, sciences, as well as buisness. It is located in North Eastern North Carolina. Founded on March 3, 1891, ECSU is a historically black college that utilizes its resources such as being located near the coast, to benefit students in marine science as well as watershed watch. It has been ranked in the category of "Top Public Comprehensive Colleges," in the south for several years.
